Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is the location of training?

A: Raffles Marina, 10 Tuas West Drive, Singapore, 638404

Q: What happens in the case of bad weather?

A: Sailing is a sport that relies on the weather and there will be times when it won’t be safe or practical to head out on the water. In the case of bad weather the session will still run and the coach(es) will conduct relevant on land simulations, theory lessons, rope work lessons etc. Sessions will not be cancelled, refunded or credited due to bad weather.

Q: Do students need to be able to swim?

A: As sailing is a water sport, you must be able to swim 50m wearing a life jacket and be comfortable in water. You will not be expected to swim regularly as part of the course, but there is always a chance of falling overboard.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: You’ll need some clothing that you don’t mind getting wet and that won’t be too heavy in water should you fall overboard, a refillable water bottle which can be topped up at the marina, a hat and sunscreen and a towel just in case.

Q: Do I need to bring my own Lifejacket or Personal Floatation Device (PFD)?

A: PFDs will be provided but if you already have your own, you may use it.

Q: When will I receive a certificate?

A: After completing the minimum course hours (12) and logging them in your log book as well as meeting the required competencies for the course (signed off by an instructor) you will receive a certificate of participation.

Q: Can I charter a boat without coach or instructor?

A: Currently, no. However we aim to have boats available for charter in the near future for those who have completed at least “Keelboat Crew” certification. Hi-Tech certificates are not a ‘licence’ and can not be used to hire a boat in Singapore or overseas.
